People usually get a double whammy dose of guilt when they accidentally cut their pet s skin. When your cat notices this change they start to groom more which could increase the amount of hair they ingest and cause other health problems. But sometimes if something becomes stuck in its fur or a cat neglects its grooming mats may form. Never attempt to cut out the mats with scissors or shave the fur with a razor.

Stop shaving as soon as you see fur that looks like it can be combed through. Usually grooming keeps the fur clean and prevents fleas from taking hold. And if these are left un brushed the amount of matted and entangled hair increases resulting in it becoming even more matted. Dead hair mixes up with the stuck up debris and dirt on its skin thus forming into even larger mats.

They know the pet got too matted and they feel neglectful. Once your cat is calm move the clippers in the same direction that your cat s fur lies. For cases where the mats are stuck to your cat s skin bring it to the vet who can give it a close shave without hurting it. This can lead to dry scaly and sometimes irritated skin.

Matted cat fur on the other hand damages tissue by preventing oxygen and moisture from reaching it. What if the cut is serious. Most cats shed their fur during spring and fall. Fur licking keeps a cat s skin healthy and stimulates sebaceous glands in their skin to produce oil to lubricate the fur.

When this happens matting and fur entangling worsen.
